Save On Meats mixtape - “The Meat Mix”

DOWNLOAD

A friend at Save On Meats asked me for a few hours of music to play in the diner so I sent a few of my old mixes and this new one. If a fuzzy bootleg of an early Sonics concert comes on while you’re eating a six dollar burger and fries, you’re welcome.

I was looking for a job, and then I found a job… and that’s why I haven’t posted anything in waaaay too long.

Seriously though, I’m not a shitty, fucking whiny, goddamn loudmouth crybaby like Morrissey. But I’m going to start posting more often again.

Google bases new prototype on TNG and this very blog

First, Sony came out with its “never stop gaming” PS Vita campaign, which is designed to cause gamers to get hit by cars.

Now, Google is unveiling a prototype for this monstrosity. I seriously recommend you watch the promotional video for these glasses. Obviously, the idea for them was adapted from the classic TNG episode “The Game” in which Riker returns from his sex vacation with a piece of head gear that operates an addictive video game which eventually ensnares the whole crew of the Enterprise. In order to save the day, Wesley Crusher must resist the sexual advances of guest star Ashley Judd, which proves easy for him. You can download and watch all of TNG here, and you probably should.

I also predicted this advancement months ago right here, but Google left out the part where you have to shove your phone up your own ass because this device is strictly for shitty people. Tech developers have crossed the line between what they can do and what they should do. I wish they would stop trying to destroy etiquette.

Mixtape Monday - April 2, 2012

DOWNLOAD

I’ve been shoooooooooppiiiiiiiiing. I wanted to beef up my collection of essential back catalogue stuff because I’ve been failing to deliver on requests at movie night. Obviously, that’s always going to be difficult because I can only carry so many records. But if you make your requests more specific than, “can you play something newer?” I’ll always see what I can do.

I was surprised to find out that the first track on this mix is protected on Soundcloud, so I can’t stream it right now. (I’ll rearrange some stuff and try again later this week.)

Anyway, here’s the track listing:

  1. The Super Super Blues Band – Ooh, Baby & Wrecking My Love Life

  2. The Stooges – No Fun

  3. The Who – Please Please Please

  4. Buddy Holly – Early in the Morning

  5. Howlin’ Wolf – Three Hundred Pounds of Joy

  6. The Stooges – T.V. Eye

  7. Gil Scott-Heron – Johannesburg

  8. The Impressions – I’ve Found That I’ve Lost

  9. Buffalo Springfield – Mr. Soul

Mixtape Monday - March 19 (British Invasion)

DOWNLOAD

I realized with hindsight that I should have saved the Ladies Night Mixtape for today since we’re showing Showgirls at Movie Night tomorrow. Sadly, the past is past. So here’s a British Invasion mix instead. I’ve said a lot of negative things about the British Invaders, for example here and here. But some of them were okay. I still fucking hate soccer though.

Robocop at Movie Night tomorrow

Didn’t get around to making a mixtape tonight because I’ve been gardening. But don’t forget we’re showing Robocop at House Guest tomorrow night, and there’ll be cheap beers and great fried chicken as always.

45 Fridays - “Sweet Nothin’s” by Brenda Lee

DOWNLOAD

Two great sides (though a little beat up) from rockabilly princess Brenda Lee, daughter of Grayce Yarbrough Tarpley Rainwater. Yeah, Tarpley Rainwater. These tracks were recorded in 1959 when Brenda was only 15.

Don’t forget to come out to House Guest, Tuesday the 13th, for Movie Night. There’s a delicious $10 fried chicken and beer special, and we’ll have free beers for the early birds as always.

Mixtape Monday - March 5 (ladies night)

DOWNLOAD

Some good songs by girls.

A couple notes about this mix:

- of all the terrible songs about violence against women from the early days of rock n’ roll, Big Maybelle’s “Stay Away From My Sam” is easily the funniest

- no Tina on this mix, but the Wailers’ cover of “I Idolize You” demonstrates my theory about garage that The Kings of Rhythm are the originator’s originator

- and the Dee Dee Sharp jam “I Sold My Heart to the Junkman” is dedicated to my Movie Night partner, Zach Zimmermann.

I’ve said all the stuff I can think to say about this band, but I never realized until now that this album was actually produced by Bumps Blackwell, about whom a song on this mix is. Man, that guy was awesome.

P.S. We’re showing fucking WILD ZERO at movie night this Tuesday at House Guest. So come and rock out and play a sweet drinking game with us unless you’re some kind of zombie or alien or a pussy or something.
